Volunteer

Volunteers are Trinity Free Clinic’s most valued resource! They are the heart of our organization, offering expertise and helping hands to improve the health of our neighbors in need. Trinity relies on more than 300 volunteers who selflessly give their time and talent to provide free medical and dental care to Hamilton County residents who are uninsured or underinsured. Our clinic is a positive, professional environment — and a fun place to volunteer! Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

Trinity Relies on Nearly 400 Volunteers to Support All Aspects of our Organization

Internships

Trinity Free Clinic offers internships to students in their junior or senior year of college (fall, winter term, spring, or summer). Our student interns typically major in pre-medicine, pre-dental, pharmacy, public health, nursing, or related fields. Non-medical internships are available in Marketing/Communications and Development. Trinity interns gain hands-on, meaningful experience in the delivery of community-based healthcare and nonprofit administration.

All interns must complete an application and interview. Interns are expected to work a consistent schedule and complete a daily log of activities and experience gained so that we may offer an accurate account of your contributions and experiences when called upon to do so.

Internships at Trinity Free Clinic are limited and highly sought after. Students are encouraged to apply early by submitting an application and scheduling an interview. Trinity does not provide single-day shadowing opportunities.

Intern Application Deadlines:

Fall — June 15

Winter Term — September 15

Spring — September 15

Summer — January 15

“I served as an intern in Trinity’s dental and COVID testing clinics. During my two and a half months at Trinity, I learned the power that healthcare carries when given selflessly and without a bias. The encounters with Trinity patients will stay with me forever, especially one of a father and his children who came to the clinic for COVID testing. I immediately noticed anguish on his face, and through a series of questions, I learned that he was terrified his family would test positive for COVID. He was afraid his kids would be out of school, and he would not be able to go into his hourly wage job, which would affect his ability to put food on the table for his family. I administered a rapid test, which provides results in 15 minutes. During those 15 minutes, the man kneeled outside the clinic, praying their tests would come back negative. Upon hearing their results were negative, he jumped in the air, and all the signs of stress disappeared from his face.

Through this and other events I witnessed, I learned that everyone deserves access to proper healthcare. Most people, myself included, take access to healthcare for granted. When they are ill or hurt, they do not need to think, “How will I receive help? How am I going to pay for this?” However, when you do not have this luxury, it creates a great deal of stress. Seeing this firsthand has not only allowed me to appreciate how blessed I am, but also to realize how rewarding it is to help uninsured or homeless individuals eliminate their worries through much-needed healthcare. I encourage future interns to enter their time at Trinity focusing on this and find ways to be present and flexible in the clinic when new opportunities arise.

I am thankful that Trinity Free Clinic allowed me to join their team and work alongside their fantastic staff. I will forever be grateful for the experiences and training I received during my stay at the clinic.”
